The seaside village of Kardamena is found in the southern part of the City Herakleidon. It is 24 km from Kos town and 5 km from the International Airport "Hippocrates".

In ancient times it was one of the 6 municipalities of ancient Kos, the City of Alasarniton and the temple of Apollo that survives until today indicates that there has been an important religious center. Archaeological interest also are the findings of an ancient theater and three early Christian basilicas. It is the youngest village of Kos after the residents moved from Old Kardamena after 1865.
